SSP and OneWorld - a second instance of SSP?

I've already posted this, but nobody has answered. Happy Wednesday.

I'm aware that I can deploy the same Reference Cart package to touchpoints on multiple sites in OneWorld, but what if I want different modifications? Before I go ahead with the assumption that the following is correct I thought I'd see if anyone knew definitively...

Is it as simple as copying all files/folders from Reference Checkout directory to a new directory and creating a new SSP application that points to the new application folder?
