Linking a custom record to a form

My apologies for this rookie question. I have created a custom record that tracks "Training Hours" (basically just a drop-down with program/amount of hours to train). I want a user to be able to navigate to our Employee Form, select a "Training Hours" sub-tab, select New Training Hours, then add one from the list. The record/form/etc is created, but I am unable to get my "Training Hours" sub tab to show up on the "Employee Form" or even get my custom training hours record to show up under any sub-tab.
