Custom Invoice layouts

Folks,

We're trying to make NS's invoice layout a touch more the way we want it, rather than the way NS wants it and aren't having much luck. While some customization is possible, its limited and, well, crude (have to specify text locations by measurements, for instance).

NS tells us this is all there is - can't design our own form and upload it.

What are others doing? We just can't believe everyone uses this same form.
