customizing sales order emailed copy/html

When customers place orders on my web site, the email confirmation is rich text, but no bars or borders appear.  Nice and clean.
If a customer has made a mistake, I correct the sales order and save/email.  The 2nd copy is emailed with borders and bars, and includes alot of in-house information I do not want on it.

Why is the website email confirmation using one layout,
and when I edit and save the email confirmation is using another layout?

and where do I go to fix this?
If you tell me setup>transaction forms....I've spent alot of time there looking at the sales order perferred forms.  There is my preferred sales order (which has printing fields I can customize), then there is this sales order (external) that is also checked (which as no printing fields I can customize).  What is that??
