Custom Field Can't Source From Correctly!?

I want the PO# field accessible in Item Fulfillments. I figured this was straightforward enough as I'd just create a custom body field, sourced from 'created from' plus the 'PO# field.' I can't get it to work and I'm going nuts.

I've tried everything I can't think of:
Type - free-form text field
Store Value - checked
Applies To tab
* item fulfillment
* item fulfillment + sales order
Display tab
* display type normal
* display type disabled
Different sources
* Sourcing and Filtering tab - source list Created From, source from PO/Check#
* Sourcing and Filtering tab - source list Created From, source from Ref. No.
