Item Attribute within a Tag within a Custom item field not displaying

Hello,
I am trying to display am item attribute that is located within a tag. That tag is placed within a custom item field.
The attribute will not display.
It will display fine if placed directly within the custom field, but not within the tag.
I have tried declaring the attribute, but this has not worked either.
Any ideas?
