Append HTML Formatted Text to Rich Text Field using formula

I'm trying to build a workflow that would not just add text to a custom field, but would also add html formatting.

We have a custom field called "Back Order Date". I have my workflow setup to set field value when "Back Order Date" is not empty. I'm able to add the text I want, without a problem:

Field = Custom Field XYZ
Value = Formula
Formula = {custitem_xyz}||' back ordered until ' ||{custitem_bodate}

If I try to wrap font tags around my formula text, I get an invalid expression though. Is this possible via SuiteFlow?
