Custom Date Format for international customers in Advanced PDF template

Hi Guys,
Is there a way to modify the date format in the invoice for international customers - showing DDMMYYYY instead of MMDDYYYY? I have setup the correct date format in the subsidiary record but it doesn't reflect in the invoice generated by the advanced PDF template. Since the advanced pdf uses BFO and Freemarker template framework; is it possible to use field manipulation through these frameworks? Appreciate any help. Happy holidays folks.
