Custome check boxes not appearing in Mass Update nor SetUp/Import/Import CSV Records

I have three custom fields that I cannot access via Mass Updates nor can I use Import CSv records, these check boxes are not exposed and I do not understand why. Is it  bug I need to report or is there an obscure reason for this problem?
