Changing a Lead to Customer

I have taken over the customization of our NetSuite Forms. I have a customized the Lead Form and the Customer Form. I have several customers were the view and edit links, open the Lead form instead of the Customer form. My understanding, is that when the Lead Status is Changed to Customer-6 Closed Won, that the record would be a customer. Is there something I am missing?
