Term Deposits/Certificates of Deposit

edited Nov 26, 2019 8:57AM in Accounting / ERP

We're moving into NetSuite, so we have the opportunity to do things right.
We may have multiple "Term Deposits" or "Certificates of Deposit" (CDs). (I have a SINGLE NS account number assigned for these at the present,.)

These CDs each have a start date, and a maturity date, and an interest rate.
Our Finance team says they MUST have a method for tracking each CD, thinking of having each CD in its own account number. However, leaving room for an unlimited number of CDs seems like NOT the right thing to do in a Chart of Accounts.

What methods have you found that will allow us to follow multiple CDs within NetSuite? (I've even thought of a custom recordtype...). Also, should I consider using account type of BANK instead of "Other Current Asset"?

Howdy, Stranger!
