How does "System Notes" work?
We've recently had a discussion here at work and there are 2 differing opinions of what, exactly, is kept in the DB.
When someone makes a change, we see in the system notes:
date, set by, type, field, old value, new value
One way of thinking is that the entire record containing the item changed is kept in old & new formats (basically making duplicate records with sometimes 1 change).
Another way of thinking is that when someone hits Save, it only tracks the 6 items above, in an 'audittrail' table (or whatever the name) and saves the original record with the updates.
So, is either correct? Or is it something else all together?
