can't search by homephone or mobilephone

We just had a situation where we needed to find a customer based on the caller id when they called us.  We started to perform a customer search and quickly realized that homephone and mobilephone aren't listed in the filters.

Really?  It was quite embarrassing as I'm the admin to tell people "oh... looks like we can't search for a customer by phone number..."

I'm sure I'm missing something, this has got to be possible.  Anyone have any ideas for me?  Are the fields called something else?
