Center Tab/Catergories

Hi, I am trying to amend the content of the Custom Reports Tab on a Custom Sales Center. There are a number of Categories that I would like to remove from the Reports Tab. The issue I am having is when I try and remove one of these Categories it throws an error:

This record cannot be deleted, because it is referred to by other records.

Any advice on this?
