Serial Numbered Items

I'm trying to use Serial Numbered Items. In the NetSuite Help, it tells me the feature isn't available, but then says to contact my administrator, which then explains how to turn it on. But when I follow those directions, it then tells me to select a checkbox that doesn't show up in my account. Are Serial Numbered Items something that costs extra?
