Inventory GL number functionality changed

Recently, GL function in adding inventory items seems to have changed. Before, we were able to type in the GL number, hit tab and move to the next field. Now, the system says that the number we've entered is invalid and does not allow us to complete the field. However, after about 7 or 8 attempts, the system accepts the GL number. Has anyone else had a similar experience like this? If so, what is the solution?
