Inventory items being held for Maintenance contracts

hi, we are a Reseller. We do not hold stock so our inventory items are all marked as 'non inventory for resale'.
However we have a few maintenance contracts where by we hold various stock to fulfill support and maintenance jobs.
I was thinking the best way to load these stock items would be to have them as Inventory items, but how do I set it up so that these items cannot be sold by our sales guys (as the goods are for support contracts only)?
