Inventory Asset vs. Inventory Valuation

When we try and run the Inventory Valuation report and compare the amount to our Inventory Asset account, it's about 30,000 off.  Can someone tell me if they have this problem?  I think the amount in the asset account comes from the actual receipt of the items.  The valuation report comes from the inventory item $.   I really need help on this long term issue.
