Changing Inventory classification

We currently have some items in our inventory that were entered as regular items, but should have been entered as serialized. I realize that these are treated differently in Netsuite, but is there a way we can change those items that are not serialized to serialized through some method in Netsuite? One specific entry shows activity, and I am hesitant to inactivate and create new for this serialized item. Any ideas welcome!
