Updating item names

Is there a way to mass update an item name/number? I am referring to the master field that NS uses to identify a product. We can do a CSV import to update Display Name and Vendor Name, but cannot do so for the Item Name/ Number.

We basically want to take out a single digit from a large group of product numbers.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance!
