Possible to move Inventory Items into a Kit?

When I began using Netsuite, I created Accounting items based on our part numbers. We now need to create Kits for these same part numbers with all associated components/members, yet I would like the order history to move with those parts. What future problems may I be creating if Inventory Item A were edited to become a Kit "A" member? I'd appreciate advice from someone who has changed inventory carrying processes.
