G/L account remaping for Items

For Non-Inventory Items is it possiable to change the Chart of Account number without it being retroactive.

If those changes are not retrocactive then if we went into history will the old account mapping be preserved or reflect change?

In a nutshell we want to preserve the financials and view past activity in the state it was prior to the change, but move forward witht the change.
