Mass Update Purchase Tax Code...?

Dear Forum,

Can anyone tell me the best way to alter the tax codes for Inv items?
We have sucessfully changed all of our items to have a sales tax code of VAT:S (i.e. GB standard rate - changing over from the temporary standard).

However we've still got a legacy few thousand inv items where the purchase tax code is wrong, and from what I can see it's not updateable via mass update.

Am I missing something?
