In-transit inventory

Has anyone implemented "In-Transit" in NetSuite? 
The scenario: recipient/warehouse mgr and shipper communicate back and forth from the point of "ready to ship" to "shipper dock pickedup" to "on-water" to "at ocean dock" to "cleared custom" to "on-carrier" to "receiver dock".  Warehouse Mgr/staff has to update the ShipDate, Date Confirmed, and Status during this 26-30 day process.  We think a "In-transit" location or status on the custom record may do the work.  Any other inputs? Thanks.
