Calculate Demand for a specific year

I have a client that sells books, a typical life of a book on shelves is 3 years. The sales are completely different for each year of the sale. They want to plan demand for the new books with an alternate source item but for a specific year. For example,: Calculate the demand for book XYZ for one year, using the sale of book ABC in 2010 (first year of the book sales).
Any suggestions would be great. I am not sure if even NetSuite could do this.
