How to find age of stock on hand to determine which should be written off as dead sto

It seems so simple, find inventory on hand that hasn't been sold since before April 2012.  We want to write off dead stock for year end.  I'm sure I'm missing something but have tried search and reports but am unable to find dead stock based on last transactions (that pulls up everything besides just sales or, the last transaction field is empty) A very old thread discussed but didn't resolve problem of finding dead stock.  What do you suggest?   Thanks!
