Letter Template Issue

I am trying to create a new letter template record for a letter campaign. I have created my template using microsoft word and saved it in my file cabinet under letter templates. When I go to select this template when creating a new template record the file is not listed in the drop down list. Has anyone encountered this and have any solutions???
