Links in Marketing Templates - HELP!

Hi,

I am having problems linking to external sites through marketing and email templates. <a href="www.backupdirect.net"></a> for example, but when it is sent Netsuite automatically adds on its own tags, alt codes etc, and then redirects to your the address you want.

Is there a way to stop this?
