Setup of SMTP email server does not work if your datacenter is na1.netsuite.com

edited Nov 22, 2019 4:54PM in CRM 3 comments

We setup an SMTP server and configured Netsuite to send campaign emails through that server.

First off, we noticed all the stats are wrong.  We sent 800 emails and only about 200 show as sent with 100% opened (That never happens). But no bounces shown. (Again that cant be).

After some research of our SMTP logs and some DNS searching we found that Netsuite has failed to setup any DNS records for the massbounces.na1.netsuite.com domain. There is no MX or ANY records for that host/domain. Therefore, many of our emails were getting rejected since the sending envelope (in the SMTP 'MAIL FROM' protocol) did not point to a valid domain so about 25% of email servers will reject inbound email if the sending domain does not exist.

Howdy, Stranger!
