AT what time a credit card is actually debited?

We are new to NetSuite and about to launch our hosted web store. Now we want to set up credit card facilities but find we are not able to tell exactly at what time a credit card is debited.

I have been reading the thread about credit card authorization (https://usergroup.netsuite.com/users/showthread.php?t=3290). It seems that when a sales order is placed the card is pre-authorized with the amount allocated. After that we have up to 30 days to fulfill the order before the pre-authorization expires.

Now my question is: At which point the credit card is actually debited? Possibilities I can see are:
