Project Stage Audit

I haven't seen this discussed yet so I thought I would ask the community to see if anybody else has a need to audit the stage progression of a project?

For instance, tracking how many days a project has been in a particular stage or seeing the average days in stage of all projects. 

The raw data is available in the Audit Trail field, however we need to parse it on our own which is a tedious and time consuming process.
