Cannot set Customer isPerson field

Hello all,

I'm trying to create a new customer, but specify if it's a person or a company by using the 'isPerson' field. However, I'm getting an error when I try to create a customer with that field set: 'You do not have permissions to set a value for element isperson due to one of the following reasons: 1) The field is read-only; 2) An associated feature is disabled; 3) The field is available either when a record is created or updated, but not in both cases.'

The documentation doesn't specify that isPerson is read-only. Any ideas?
