Hello:

How can a user set external id on an item via front end?

We could set external ids on items if we were the ones to create them, but we are doing an integration with netsuite for a client.  He is the one who creates items -- via the web interface.  The external id field is a hidden input field on an item edit form.

Is the only recourse to run a search by name and then set the external ids programmatically?
