Incremental data retrieval for sales and purchase orders?

I would like to setup an incremental retrieval for both sales orders and purchase orders. I would typically expect to have a way to sort searched elements by "LastModified" date (or something equivalent) and to filter results, looking only at elements "ModifiedAfter".

Does NetSuite support such a data retrieval pattern? If not, how do you suggest to proceed for incremental data retrieval, where only the changes are re-imported.
