Missing SalesRep via CustomerSearchBasic

I am trying to read in all customers with a CustomerSearchBasic call.  One of the fields is salesRep which is a reference to the UserAccount.  This field is not consistently returned even though when I am in the NetSuite UI I can see the Sales Rep defined.  Why would the salesRep field not be populated on a basic search when it appears populated in the UI?
