Incoming email event..

I am trying to get a script to fire on an incoming email on a case form. When a new email arrives i am able to set a status on the case by using the before load case event, however for subsequent email i am not able to figure out which event fires.

I have tried, before and before submit on both case and message records.

My requirement is that when an email arrives in a case after the first interaction all subsequent interactions the status should change to a particular value when its incoming and change to another value when a message goes out.
