Stop submit on Customer Edit

Hi.

I would like to know how to stop an update from occuring after custom validation has taken place and return an error to the screen of the user.

To be more specific, I have already added an Event Script onBeforeSubmit that does validation to make sure emails are not modified for Customers on Edit.

The code to detect if it is valid or not works but I can't find any way to STOP the update/submit from taking place.

I try to call nlapiCreateError(); but this does absolutely nothing.

If anyone can help it would be GREATLY appreciated as this is very urgent.
