Adding data to Custom Record Type

I have set up a Custom Record Type of name "Example", I want to add data to it in the "Example" List. I dont seem to be able to do it in smbXML?

This would be the customList tag?

I have Example Custom Fields in the Example Type. I dont seem to be able to set these through using customRecord > customFieldList > customFieldLine > customFieldRef
