What is NPI Sub-tab in Assembly Item

I'm trying to import our Assembly Items from our legacy ERP system. There is a sub-tab called NPI. What is it used for and why are there two mandatory fields; Sales Assigned and Finance Assigned?  Also when I try to import them there is no field that is available to map to in NetSuite.
