Competitor as Parent

I am creating a custom record that I would like to be able to append to the bottom of a Competitor form. I create a new field in the custom record and set List/Record to be "Competitor" After doing this, the "Record is Parent" checkbox is greyed out.
  Is there a way to set "Competitor" (which is a, "Other Record" type) as parent?
