Changing/Consolidating Classes

I need to make significant changes to my Class list, which I use to track Products. However, I have about 1 million open revenue schedules in some form of processing, going out for the next 3 years.

What are my options to re-structure my Class segment given this constraint?  I want to reduce the list by about 1/2 so it's not a matter of simply renaming- I want to consolidate.  We are only the old advanced revenue recognition module.
