Preventing Multiple Users from Editing Records

EDIT: Can someone remove this from this section?

I thought this was now a feature of NetSuite, but it seems I was mistaken.

Besides voting for enhancement 96103, how have users addressed the problem of multiple users editing the same record at once?

Could we build a workflow or script that would prevent that?

I'm not sure why this isn't an option, but I'd like to throw in that I voted for the enhancement but need a more immediate answer. We're implementing NetSuite, so we still have time to address this, but not much.
