Revenue recognition query

We are in the process of trying to switch from % complete revenue recognition to milestone complete revenue recognition on projects. We have currently set up 10 pilot projects to pick up on any problems, and we are unsure how we attach the project to the sales order without ending up with 2 revenue arrangements (one generated from the sales order and one generated from the project). At the moment we are creating an extra item line with a zero value to attach the project to, but it’s very messy at the moment.

Please advise.
