What is the formula that compares Expected Close Date & Actual Close Date in an Opportunity Search?

Hello there, i'm trying to enter a custom formula field in a Saved search to give a count of days between Expected Close Date and Actual Close date fields, for both days past expected, days before expected, and where dates match, have tried a few online suggestions with no luck, would be grateful for any suggestions on formulas and process, thanks for your help.
