Shipping a partially fulfilled Kit

Im trying to work out a way that we are able to ship a partially fulfilled kit:
i.e. if one piece of a kit  is out of stock im looking for a way to back order that item rather than the entire kit
Any Ideas or advice? :h_a_w:
