Kilimanjaro local development + URL format

Good morning, good afternoon or good evening to all of you beautiful souls reading this plea for help of mine,
My situation:
Two years ago, I inherited an SCA environment running on Kilimanjaro. Unfortunately, the previous developers have implemented a way for some of our URLs to behave differently from stock/out of the box where some paths would not have the `*.ssp` in the URL.
e.g. instead of `https://mydomain.com/store/checkout.ssp`, it would be `https://mydomain.com/cart/checkout/step1`
