create a custom field to pick up customer name from invoice and journal

Revenue is posted to the revenue nominal account from 2 sources: sales invoices and journal for release of deferred revenue, following fulfilment. I would like to run a transaction report from this revenue nominal account with the customer name from both sources in one common field. To do this, a custom field needs to be created to pick the customer name (transaction body field) from the sale invoice and also the customer name( transaction line field) from the journal. To create this custom field, do I select transaction body field and in the validation/defaulting subtab, what is the formula I should add to pick up the customer from the above 2 different sources?
