So.... by using an upsert instead of a create transaction, I was able to overcome the error. Still not exactly sure why it acted the way it did on Create but I am moving on!! Thanks -David

Found this GEM in another thread, which turned out to fix my issue!! RE: 302 Moved Temporarily on web service login If you are using a Test Account or Demo account, you will need to adjust your Web Services endpoints to "webservices.na1.netsuite.com...."
