Responding to ~angela's post. That's exactly what I did initially because that was what we saw a NS employee did during our NS implementation. However, what I encountered was the CSV Import using the "import only" form reported successful import, but did NOT actually update the fields.

For the record, this is the workaround I ended up implementing: In the field setup, the custom field’s Display Type set to Normal.
