Hi, we had a similar situation in our business and I was advised by netsuite help that no, one cannot convert serial items to non serial. We had to recreate each item as non serial.

I have customised a report to present Gross Margin at Item Defined Cost, and then perform the calculations you describe in excel. I too would like to complete the reporting & calculation within netsuite and present it on the reps dashboard.
